NorthCross Lutheran Church
Lakeville, MN
New Facility
Size: 17,600 square foot
Completed: July 2019
NorthCross Lutheran Church experienced such tremendous growth that their existing site and facility could no longer accommodate their ministry. Station 19 Architects partnered with them and led them through the Strategic Master Planning process. Together they planned the appropriate facility location, size, and parking to support the current NorthCross ministry vision to “Lead people to Jesus by sharing timeless truth in a timely way” and to build for future growth.
The NorthCross facility is centered on the site and oriented toward the corner and the heart of the neighborhood. A limited exterior material palate of masonry, neutral-toned stucco, warm wood, and contrasting accents reflects the church’s desire to balance relevant and timeless design.
Flexible, multi-purpose spaces throughout the building wisely utilized the project budget to meet NorthCross’s ministry needs of education, gathering, and connections. Minimal yet playful kids’ education spaces reference a town square park with abstract tress and city building themed rooms to enhance the church’s focus on community. Each room’s theme ties together seamlessly creating a fun space and easy wayfinding for children and their parents. The 400-seat multi-purpose Worship Center offers and inviting, sacred space for Sunday Worship and allows for flexibility for various community and outreach events and situates NorthCross with an expansion plan for future growth.
The result is a facility with a variety of flexible ministry spaces ranging from a large community-sized lobby to a multi-purpose kitchen, sacristy, and volunteer room. While flexible, each space is tailored and individualized to the current NorthCross culture while accommodating for the next generation’s vision.
